August 10, 2004 - Gen Con Indy 2004 Highlighted Collectibles

The "Auction Dude" Frank Mentzer has gone through the database of pre-registered items so far. He's come up with a list of Highlighted Collectibles to spark your interest.

Meanwhile, Andrew Parros has submitted some Tips on Tag Placement as you prepare your lots for submission, either on the web now, or onsite next week.

Please continue to participate in the Auction section (now pinned) of the Gen Con Forums . The posts have reached a staggering 20 pages as Frank & Bruce answer any and all questions about the Auction.

Gen Con Indy is only one week away! Remember, item pre-registration closes on Saturday, August 14, 2004. After that, we'll be shutting down the database and bringing it to Indy. If you happen to miss out on pre-registration, onsite registration will open at the auction site on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at 12:00 noon.

See you at Gen Con Indy!

July 14, 2004 - Gen Con Indy 2004 Auction Schedule and Revamped FAQ

Many of you have asked for it, and we now have it: the tentative Gen Con Indy 2004 Auction Schedule. It's a .pdf file which will require you to have Adobe Reader to view. It's subject to change at any time depending upon what types of lots are submitted. Thanks to the "Auction Dude", Frank Mentzer, for providing this.

Frank has also revamped our Frequently Asked Questions .

Reminder: Please participate in the "Auction" section of the Gen Con Forums. Frank is participating daily, answering questions about the Auction. Some of the other Auction staff have popped in as well (Ken, Bruce, Jane, and myself).

June 17, 2004 - Gen Con Indy 2004 Pages Are Here!

Gen Con Indy 2004 is only two months away! The support pages have now been prepared. Start with the Gen Con Indy 2004 Index and you will find links to our location, auction rules, pre-registration instructions , and other useful information.

We are pleased to be hosting the Aces Charity Auction once again this year. The Speed Painting Contest will be on Friday, August 20, 2004 at 6:30pm. The resulting miniatures will be auctioned off for charity on Saturday night, August 21, 2004 at 7:00pm. Please support both events!

More information will be forthcoming as Gen Con approaches.

April 7, 2004 - Gen Con Indy 2004 Auction Pre-Registration Site Now Open

Due to popular demand, the Gen Con Indy 2004 Auction Pre-Registration Site is now open! Sellers may now pre-register their items for consignment for the big convention in August. The deadline for pre-registering items is August 14, 2004.

At this time, the support material for Gen Con Indy 2004 is not ready. The links at the bottom of the pre-registration page lead to dated material, although a large portion of it is still accurate. I hope to update everything over the next week or so.

I've already been in contact with the Aces Charity Auction folks and we will be once again auctioning a fine set of miniatures from the Speed Painting contest.

Also new is a link to the newly-formed Gen Con Forums (opens in a new window). There is already a thread on the Auction under "Gen Con Indy Events". I plan to take questions & answers raised at this forum and placing them in the FAQ. Please join as there is a lot of information here already in other categories besides the Auction.

Anyway, please bear with me as I update the site. Thank you!

January 28, 2004 - Happy New Year!

A belated Happy New Year to everyone! I'm late again, and once again I apologize. We've got some news to share.

Bruce Carson managed to do something I haven't yet, and that is to upload his own set of Gen Con So Cal 2003 photos . Check them out!

I've compiled our Calendar of Events for 2004. One major note is that the dates have changed for Gen Con So Cal 2004! Originally scheduled for late December, the new dates are December 2-5, 2004 . Mark your own calendars!

Our first convention of the year is fast approaching, and that's OrcCon 2004 over Presidents Day weekend (Feb. 13-16, 2004). As always, we'd like to know what you'd like for us to carry at our booth .

We hope to see you at OrcCon!

December 24, 2003 - Gen Con So Cal 2003 Recap

Once again, I apologize for being late with this, but here is the Gen Con So Cal 2003 Recap . I think it's safe to say we set a new record with a single lot that might never be broken!

As usual, I took photos. But seeing that I never quite finished uploading the photos from Gen Con Indy, I'm not sure when I'll be uploading the ones from Gen Con So Cal. Hopefully I can do some during the holidays.

An updated calendar for 2004 is coming soon. Next up for us will be OrcCon, during President's Day weekend (February 13-16, 2004). We hope to see you then!

Happy holidays to all!

November 27, 2003 - Back from Hiatus

I sincerely apologize for not having updated the site in some time. The hard drive on my laptop died over Labor Day weekend and it's still not fully rebuilt. Fortunately, I do keep backups.

It's been a quiet time between conventions anyway. But now, Gen Con So Cal 2003 is now only a couple of weeks away! We are pleased to announce that in addition to the Auction, we will have a booth in the Exhibit Hall. Click here for more details on The Last Grenadier's booth. We hope that you will visit the booth as well as the Auction.

The photos that I took at Gateway 2003 are stored at the Strategicon site (opens in a new window). I apologize for the brownish backgrounds, but I'm still learning how to use that digital camera.

Finally, a reminder. The last day for pre-registering items for Gen Con So Cal 2003 will be Saturday, December 6, 2003. After this time, you may register items onsite starting on Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at 12 noon.

See you at Gen Con So Cal!

September 8, 2003 - Gen Con So Cal Auction Pre-Registration Site is "Live"

We're pleased to announce that the Gen Con So Cal 2003 Auction Pre-Registration Site is now "live"! Bruce has made some improvements to this part of the site based on feedback & recommendations we received after Gen Con Indy. They include:

As always, please read the instructions before beginning. Also check out the Auction Rules & Frequently Asked Questions. Then you may log in to the site and start registering items.

If you have any technical questions or problems, please contact us and we'll be happy to assist you.

In other news, we're moving right along uploading more photos to the Gen Con Indy 2003 Photo Gallery. Now we're up to the 3rd day (Saturday). The Collector's Session ran late again, until 1am!

September 3, 2003 - Gen Con So Cal Information is "Live"

For the very first time, Gen Con is coming to Southern California! It'll be held at the Anaheim Convention Center on December 11-14, 2003. As we did in Indianapolis, we will be running the auction there. We have posted our information here . Check this page for where we'll be located, the auction hours, and other pertinent information. Also as in Indy, sellers will be able to pre-register items; that service will be available soon.

The Gen Con Indy 2003 Photo Gallery continues to be updated. The latest batch of photos feature the Friday night Collector's Session which went until 2am!

It's also time for a bit of site maintenance. The site news from July & August 2003 has been archived to its own page. I've moved some links on the main page to the Links to Our Past Conventions.

The rest of the first day of Gen Con has been posted to the Gen Con Indy 2003 Photo Gallery. I got a quick look outside the Auction at other things that were going on across the street at the Convention Center.

August 19, 2003 - Gen Con Indy 2003 Photo Gallery Update

A new batch of photos centers on the first morning of Gen Con. It features not one, but three attempts at a group staff photo. You'll see how it eventually got out of control! As always, you can see for yourself at the Gen Con Indy 2003 Photo Gallery.

August 5, 2003 - Gen Con Indy 2003 Saturday Refund Announcement

Those of you who attended Gen Con Indy 2003 may have experienced long lines at registration just to get a badge, particularly on Saturday. We have received an announcement regarding a refund for those who had to endure this. As a courtesy, we are reposting this announcement here even though it doesn't pertain to the Auction directly.

August 4, 2003 - Gen Con Indy 2003 Photo Gallery Started

That's right, I've started posting photos of the Gen Con Indy 2003 Auction. We're starting with the very first preparations made at the auction site - a full two days before Gen Con even started. We invite you to head on over to the Gen Con Indy 2003 Photo Gallery page. There will be much more to come!

July 31, 2003 - Back from Gen Con Indy 2003

This is just a small update to say we are home from Gen Con Indy 2003, and what an event it was! It's going to take some time for all of us who worked there to collectively catch our breath and recover.

There is already a discussion thread over at ConsimWorld regarding the auction (Frank Mentzer has already made a report there).

If my counts are correct, I took some 400 digital photos over the six days I was in Indy, not to mention a few .avi videos. I plan to start sifting through them next week and to put together the Gen Con Indy 2003 Auction Photo Gallery. The post-con report should be coming soon as well.

I've shifted some links around now that Gen Con is over. You can find some of the links that had been on the main page at Links to Our Past Conventions. I've also moved the Site News from June 2003 to its own archive .

We'd like to thank all of our auction staff menbers for their tremendous work in making the auction go. We'd also like to thank all the sellers & buyers who participated. Because of all of you, I believe we can state that the Gen Con Indy 2003 Auction was a wonderful success!

July 12, 2003 - Aces Charity Auction Update

New information has been posted regarding the Aces Charity Auction . It has the location of where the Speed Painting Contest will be held on Friday night at Gen Con.

Speaking of which, Gen Con is getting closer! It's time to remind those of you who intend to pre-register your items to sell, that the deadline is July 20, 2003. After this date, while you will still be able to log in and view and print information, you will not be able to enter new items. We will start onsite registration at the auction site starting on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at 12 noon.

See you all at Gen Con!

June 30, 2003 - Getting Descriptive

It's good to see that folks are using the Gen Con Indy 2003 Auction Pre-Registration Site. A question was raised as to just how descriptive one can be when entering an item. Once again, the Frequently Asked Questions holds the answer.

Ever wonder what the Weekend Warrior does on weekends? We now have photographic evidence! Also new is a General Photo Gallery Index which will include links to past photos as well as new sets such as today's.

June 26, 2003 - Aces Charity Auction at Gen Con Indy 2003

We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting a special charity auction during Gen Con Indy 2003. This is a two-part event that actually begins on Friday evening, July 25, 2003, with a Speed Painting Contest. On Saturday evening, July 26, 2003 at 6:30pm, we will auction off the painted miniatures. See the press release for more details.

The Gamex 2003 Photo Gallery is now complete. We've got another set of photos on a slightly different topic to upload, then we'll take a short break before the all-out photo documentary at Gen Con!

June 16, 2003 - Another FAQ Question, New Gen Con Indy Logo, and More Photos

Today's addition to the Gen Con Indy 2003 Frequently Asked Questions pertains to inspecting auction items before they are put on stage.

You may notice there has been a slight alteration to the Gen Con Indy logo that we've been using...read the text! The good folks of Gen Con made this for us and we will be also printing up a huge banner to be placed at the auction site .

Finally, today's batch of Gamex 2003 photos are of the Weekend Warrior booth itself and just some of the products we offer. Once again, we'd like to know what you would like for us bring to future Strategicon conventions.

June 12, 2003 - Site Additions, Updates, and Maintenance

The Gen Con Indy 2003 Frequently Asked Questions have been updated once again - for those whom the concept of "Consignment Store" is new, and for those who may wish to make changes to items already pre-registered in the auction database.

A new set of photos has been uploaded to the Gamex 2003 Photo Gallery. This set is dedicated to our Guest of Honor, Peter Adkison, and also contains photos of the sealed deck Magic: The Gathering tournament held on May 25, 2003. Thanks to April Bremner for taking the photos.

It's also time to archive the old news again. A new page has been created for the news of May 2003.

May 29, 2003 - Gamex 2003 Photo Gallery

Everyone knows I've taken photographs at just about every convention we attend. It's just been a daunting task to even think about posting them here - until now. It's taken me all afternoon to accomplish this, but do check out the start of the Gamex 2003 Photo Gallery . There will be much more to come!

A special thanks goes to my colleague Ken Diliberto who recommended the Canon Powershot G3 and BreezeBrowser program to me.

May 29, 2003 - Site Maintenance

Now that Gamex 2003 is over, it's time for a little site maintenance. I've adjusted the links to now promote Gateway 2003 which will be over Labor Day weekend.

Gen Con Indy 2003 is less than two months away. We recently found out that instead of having one of the Capitol Rooms at the Westin, we will in fact have all three rooms. That means more space for the Consignment Store, seating, lots, everything! We've adjusted the location page with this new information.

Finally, this site news page was getting a little long, so it's time to archive the older posts. A new page has been created for the posts from April 2003. Be sure to check it out as some of the posts there can be considered "current".

April 29, 2003 - Direct Link to Gen Con Indy 2003 Pre-Registration Site

We've had a request to link directly from our main page to the Gen Con Indy 2003 Game Auction Pre-Registration Site, so I've added that today. Those of you who might be first-time users, please read the instructions first.

Additionally, I've moved all our information from past conventions from the main page to a new page. In fact I am hoping to scan and upload some of my own photos from these past conventions in the future, so by no means this new section will be considered an "archive" or a "graveyard"!

April 23, 2003 - Gen Con Indy 2003 FAQ Updated

A couple of items have been added to the Gen Con Indy 2003 Frequently Asked Questions page. Specifically, the deadline for pre-registering items is Sunday, July 20, 2003, and that we are not accepting any advance payment for seller/buyer cards or lot slips.

Keep the questions coming!
